Saw Hot Tub Time Machine yesterday. There have been comparisons to The Hangover, but that's only because it's a raunchy comedy. It was okay, with Crispin Glover stealing every scene he was in.

That's kind of a sick present to get for Easter... But I hope you like it.

I liked the original movie, not so sure about the kid from Bad News Bears playing Freddy...
Oh screw it, he was good in Watchmen. I'll give it a shot.
Saw Kick-Ass a few weeks back. I enjoyed it! It was disturbing at times, funny at others. Kind of like a junior version of Taxi Driver.

Saw Iron Man 2 this past weekend. I found it very enjoyable. The fight scenes could have been longer, but that's true of most movies and the fight scenes were very fun. War Machine looked pimped out.
Definitely a good way to spend 2 hours. And if you go see the movie, stay until after the credits.

Saw Nightmare on Elm Street yesterday. Wishing I had seen Iron Man 2 instead. It wasn't terrible (I've seen some really bad slashers before) but it was... the word unnecessary comes to mind. It's been less then 24 hours since I've seen it and I can't recall a single character's name besides Freddy.
Also, these are some of the oldest high school kids I've ever seen. I guess they must have been held back a few years...
Finally, Robert Englund will also be the only Freddy. Sorry Rorshack...

The problem is the original A Nightmare on Elm Street was just so good of a movie. Wes Craven actually gave a d**n as a writer, creating characters who acted like real human beings and dealing with a topic that hadn't really been covered before: nightmares. What's scarier then a murderer who attacks children in the one place their parents can't protect them... their own minds?
The new movie is just a run-of-the-mill remake, made with no love. The own original idea I saw in the new movie is the comparison between Freddy and the Pied Piper of Hamlin. I never really thought of that before, but yeah, in a twisted sort of way, it makes sense. Except in this case the Pied Piper had always been evil, and the townsfolk are the victims.
The reason why critics always gave Wes Craven's movies higher scores then other slasher movies is because he's very literate: his plots are well-researched and make interesting comments on society. For instance, Craven based his 1977 b-movie The Hills Have Eyes on the 1500s Sawney Bean cannibal family in Scotland. On its surface it just looks like a typical drive-in fodder about cannibals in the desert, but Craven said the film had subtle statements about uncivilized folk not liking their land being invaded and desecrated by the "civilized" (their land was used for nuclear bomb testing) and that it has parallels with the Vietnam War, and even latter-day wars like Iraq can still be compared to it.
That's a lot more thought that was ever put into any Friday the 13th film, for instance.
