This story, we get to spend some time with Sheila's pop, Patricius, and find out a few things about their relationship. You'll find out he's more evenly balanced then Calpurnia, but not without his own hang-ups.

It's nice that he gave her a little warning before shwoing up, unlike Calpurnia.

Oh, that's the kind of guy Pat is. It also helps that he likes Will, as opposed to Calpurnia who feels she has to come to her daughter's rescue.

So Reece and Patricius are on a first name basis?

Only when Pat isn't around. Today, Patricius finds out a few things about modern music trends. And my modern, I mean music movements that have been dead for 30 years...

Sheila's thinking today "Geez dad, I'm almost 300 years old, I can think for myself!"
Heh, parents with their kids....

Pat reveals some more about himself. And Sheila shows she picked up her old man's testy attitude.

Today we see that even Pat, who has at least a tolerant view of mortals, is not above being a prejudiced jerk.
This attitude stems from his advantages as a magical creatures. Imagine being born into great wealth and power. You didn't have to do anything to earn this, you basically just won the genetic lottery. It wouldn't take you very long to start feeling as though you were entitled to this position, that somehow your family was special and deserved and likewise people who were not as well off as you somehow deserved what they had, too.
That's the problem with most of Enchanter society: since they don't have to work for a living, worry about war, poverty, disease, etc. they think that the people who DO are somehow beneath them.

Today's strip shows a little bit of character development for Sheila, in my opinion. She's learned from past experience that sometimes using strong magic can be overkill, and sometimes it's best to have a proportionate response to a threat. And yes, as Ceryn learned, it's not a good idea to go starting fires in small spaces.

A little bit of continuity from "The Wall," Sheila shows off the wall that she, Ally, Reece and Kaige worked on. I think Pat likes it.
Also, we get to see that Sheila did not have a stable childhood like her friends, with her parents splitting not long after she was born. Pat, true to his nature as a philanderer, most likely did not like the prospect of having to settle down and raise a daughter.
He has lately been trying to make amends for his bad parenting, however, but he still has a long way to go.

And that concludes this arc. We get Sheila and Patricius back on a somewhat good terms. It doesn't look like either will be changing their ways anytime soon. In any case, hope you enjoyed the story. A new one begins next week.

One question. When Pat saw the wall, he seemed to know that Kaige was a dragon. Did he know of Kaige already or did Sheila mention him before off-panel?

Oh, a little from column A, a little from column B...
Sheila most likely has spoken to Pat about Kaige, but Kaige has a bit of a reputation in the magic community as a tough fighter and someone who can be counted on, so odds are Pat has heard of him in his travels.
